[Interview] A legendary designer who designed more than 50 TCD themes!

Thankfully, we receive a lot of comments about design. Maybe many people are interested in the background of the designer. I(interviewer:Nakata) think he is the best designer in the world. So I interviewed him in the form of a question. It is a simple summary of mature knowledge that you never get tired of reading. Please take a look at all.

From which theme of TCD have you been in charge of design?

I began taking charge of design from “Gorgeous”. TCD was at the milestone of the second generation.
Turning back now, when I met Mr. Nakata(representative director and president of Design Plus Inc.) for the first time, I remember two of us talking about the ideal of WordPress Theme for a couple of hours. The ideals we discussed at that time have become common perceptions and a bond and are being built up in the current TCD wordpress themes. That is still unchanged “one bond”.

TCD has a rich variety of designs, so why is it so diverse?

For example, eat something delicious and smack my lips.
I always want “the best thing” in my lifestyle. It doesn’t mean luxury, but whether or not I feel it’s the best of my emotions.

When I meet the “best thing”, I input how best it is in my memory as “a piece of emotion.” I think the accumulation of those feelings is important. I think it can be said to any job, but when heading to the job at hand, it is necessary to have a consciousness to look at the beauty of the target. I think that it is the designer’s role to draw out and express it. If you can see beauty in everything, the industry does not matter.

Is there no end to the plan?

It never ends lol
Because it is that person himself who decides the limit. It only becomes useless if it thinks it is not good. As I said earlier, I find the “best” and repeat the process of input. That leads to my dignity. When I meet the “best”, there is always a “great service” next to it. The whole picture is seen by catching it in the line and the face. It is converging to the word “impression”.

I input more and more exciting resources, and then output it in the design.
That’s my way.

Input the impression? However, it is a formula of the learning that the style which increases knowledge from the school and books actually.

The reason why this style has changed is that educators and writers are not learning the value of activity or experience. Therefore, it seems that only such things are propagating.

Now that we can do business on the Internet alone, we should focus on inproving literacy. Because words and sentences have become less meaningful. As a result, the world runs to dualism of “gain or loss”, and this is no longer stopped by anyone. It is in the style of obtaining knowledge and information by imagining ideals and wanting to do something.

Knowledge and information can be digitized but “emotions” can not be quantified. Rather “emotions” are infinite. We have to use this to learn. Getting knowledge and information is also a good learning style, but unless you find something from them and act, they will not be useful. The essence of things comes with action.In other words, we can not see anything unless we take action.

It means that “action” will trigger what can become a “result”. In the process we will be doing various “experiences”. It is important to accumulate this experience and this will change to “wisdom” for that person. I think that is the true learning for that person.

I see. Do you have anything conscious of when designing TCD?

In a word, it’s “simple”.
The design of the TCD is evaluated as “simple”, but it means that it is well-established.
For example, it’s easy to make it complicated. Today’s modern society is becoming more and more complex due to its diversification and subdivision. That’s because it’s easy.

The more complex the world is, the more people will not think and will move in a follow-up direction. Conversely, the simpler it is, the more people think and creativity will increase.

TCD theme is a template. Needless to say about versatility, I think that it is necessary to match the palatability of all users. It’s simple and straightforward, and it’s a theme that customers can easily have a brainstorm. I always remember this thought.

How is the TCD changing with the flow of the times?

It is said that Zeami of Noh(classical Japanese dance theatre) was able to see himself dancing on the stage from the audience seats at the same time. He called it “Riken no Ken(seeing apart)”. In this thought, you can see a process about behavior that instantly corrects his appearance of dancing from the audience seating objectively in real time.

By repeatedly releasing TCD, TCD seems to gradually approached this position of “Riken no Ken”. In other words, I can see it from a user perspective than before. There are still a lot of things to be done, but every time we release it we feel like we are beginning to challenge new things by connecting to the next phase with the points of improvement and corrections as the subjects.

I would like to continue to challenge myself with “Riken no Ken”.

In what way do you think that the website will develop in the future?

In the future, I believe that we cannot survive unless we have a tool that visualizes the needs of our suppliers. It is not good for a production company to go to a customer and ask “what kind of homepage do you want?”. Rather, it tends to be avoided.

Now that the world enters the mobile generation and the application is emerging, It went to a more personal direction in the business scene, and will be the scene where matching became the main axis in the future.

In addition, search is the beginning of motivation now, and when people buy things, they search and buy things mechanically. On the other hand, it is expected that the tendency to want truly wonderful things, comfortable things will be stronger along with it. For example, if you have an EC site you will need a website that “makes people’s emotions”. Whether it is a website of any type of occupation or occupation, only the genuine will survive in the future.

In other words, the lack of valuable content means that the website will not make any progress. The only way to improve your website is to make sure that you don’t mind the appearance and make sure you’re creating the contents properly. Leave the part of appearance to the TCD, and the users should work hard to produce high-value content.
