The Timelessness of TCD: Unfazed by Trends

TCD themes are more than just WordPress themes—they are also pieces of art.

As a secondary element, we aim to imbue users with a sense of “timeliness,” reflecting this in our themes’ concepts and demo sites. In this article, I’d like to talk about the “timeliness” that TCD incorporates.

More Than Just Trends

We don’t just develop based on current trends.

It’s not just about “what’s popular now.” We want to create works that capture something deeper and more intuitive. This is one of the things we focus on during development.

While we sometimes create themes based purely on “needs” without regard to timeliness, many of our themes subtly incorporate the era’s background.

Examples of TCD Themes with Timeliness

TCD’s concept of timeliness is reflected not only in the design but also in the theme’s concept, demo sites, and even naming. We strive to project a slightly ahead-of-its-time sense of societal atmosphere.

Here are some examples.

WordPress Theme “Chill”

WordPress Theme Chill

Released in February 2014, the “Chill” theme.

The concept for this theme emerged in 2013, at a time when very few people were familiar with the word “chill.” We never imagined that “chill” would become so widespread, but we chose this name because it reflects the era’s desire for relaxation.

WordPress Themes “TOKI,” “NUMERO,” and “MIKADO”

  • WordPress theme "TOKI"

The trilogy “TOKI,” “NUMERO,” and “MIKADO” was released in March, April, and May 2019.

These themes were developed with the concept of reassessing Japanese values, in light of the new Reiwa era starting in May 2019.

During a period of rising inbound demand, there was also an intention to share Japanese culture with the world. Each theme has a demo site focused on the following:

TOKI: Japanese cuisine
NUMERO: Japanese pop culture
MIKADO: Japanese spirituality

The increase in TCD themes inspired by Japanese motifs over the past few years reflects a growing interest and value in Japanese elements.

Although there are various interpretations of “Japanese,” it’s uncertain if these align with what tourists typically seek. People may begin to realize the value in things that have always been close to them. That might be why we naturally spend time developing themes with Japanese aesthetics.

WordPress Theme “FAKE”

Released in August 2019, the theme “FAKE.”

It was named to encourage people to see through the deceptions and illusions prevalent in society. However, the product quality is genuine, and it’s a popular long-selling theme for creating corporate sites easily.

Sometimes, stepping back from seemingly beautiful things reveals their true nature, while closer inspection may highlight imperfections.

This PR video was created as an antithesis to a superficial society.

WordPress Themes “muum,” “meets,” and “DROP”

  • WordPress Theme Muum

Released in December 2020, January, and March 2021, “muum,” “meets,” and “DROP” were created during a time when staying at home became the norm due to the pandemic.

With more time spent at home, people engaged in books, movies, music, and even started side jobs. Simultaneously, there was a growing desire to venture out.

Thus, each theme incorporates contemporary concepts: relaxing in nature with glamping (muum), supporting tourism through media (meets), and the rapid adoption of subscription services (DROP).

While “stay at home” implies restrictions, it also suggests that there are many ways to enjoy time at home.

WordPress Themes “Beyond,” “SOLARIS”

  • WordPress theme "Beyond"

Released in July 2022 and April 2021.

“Beyond” and “SOLARIS” were developed amidst the pandemic. They were designed with the idea of brightening society through technology, imagining a future where humans and AI coexist harmoniously.

These themes also explore the negative aspects of AI development and a controlled society. Technology has a dual nature, and it’s important to focus on what only humans can achieve.

WordPress Theme “HORIZON”

WordPress Theme HORIZON

Released in March 2022.

The theme “HORIZON” was developed as a horizontal scrolling theme that challenges conventional ideas. The demo site is filled with images evoking diversity, focusing on gender and diversity issues, and breaking away from stereotypes.

Creating Needs Aligned with the Times

We intuitively capture the essence of the times and reflect it in our work while staying aware of societal trends. We focus on creating what we want rather than just following trends.

However, completely ignoring needs and background isn’t interesting either. So, we subtly incorporate societal contexts into our work.

“Instead of conforming to trends, we create needs that align with the times.”

This is the “timeliness” that TCD embraces.
